Funding of €176,000 announced to provide cargo service to Bere Island

Catherine Martin, T.D. Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht agus Jack Chambers T.D., Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport today announced that funding has been approved for Bere Island Projects Group Ltd to provide a subsidised cargo service to Bere Island, Cork.

This is a two year contract that will run from August 2020 to August 2022.  Blue Ocean Marine will deliver the service and provide two return sailings weekly, at an annual cost of €88,000.

Speaking today about this service Minister Martin said “I am delighted to make this announcement today.  Government recognises the importance of services such as these to support the communities on the offshore islands

“I recognise the importance of such cargo services, and it’s a positive thing that a contract has been agreed and in place to support the people on Bere Island” Minister of State Chambers added.
