Every Sunday in October and November at 2pm, host Sharon Poulter will be giving a 45-minute guided tour of The Castle house and guest rooms. Meet in the Café, €8 per person.
Discover the story behind the Townshend family eleven generations on and about their beautiful 17th Century castellated home that overlooks Castlehaven harbour. Through the door it’s like stepping back in time, with the wood panelled walls, large family portraits and furniture and ornaments from a far.
Sharon and her partner Justin Cochrane Townshend took over the running of The Castle four years ago from his retiring parents. For over 60 years guests have been visiting and staying at The Castle, although some things have changed over time. Like the addition of ensuite bathrooms, where previous guests had shared the two bathrooms with the family! Despite the updates, the house is full the old features, including the original roll top bath and sink.
Last year Georigina Campbell awarded The Castle B&B of the Year for 2019, which was perfect recognition for all the work gone into maintaining the building and driving the business forward. The Castle is now proudly part of the Hidden Ireland collection of unique manor houses across the country and putting a pin in West Cork on the map.
If you’d like to stay at The Castle, it is open for Bed and Breakfast from March to mid December. Rates from €120 – €200 per night, for two adults, including breakfast.
