From the onset of the Covid 19 crisis, Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Services has continued to find ways to serve the community of Cork, taking a leading role in the community response by providing new and existing members with an innovative Housebound Delivery Service.
The service initially focused on the provision of books and magazines to those within our communities who were required to self isolate or cocoon, following the introduction of Covid 19 guidelines. Having recently surpassed 1,000 home deliveries, the service has since been expanded to include musical instruments and the distribution of activity packs for children and their families in Direct Provision.
Containing colouring challenges, puzzle activities, word games and activity sheets, the packs have been delivered to residents in Millstreet, Mallow and Clonakilty, with additional deliveries planned. Cork Sports Partnership’s activity booklet and Cork County Council’s ‘Colourful Heritage of County Cork’ publication have also been included; providing activities for all ages.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Ian Doyle welcomed the initiative saying:
“Our Libraries are central to the council’s mission of improving quality of life, providing a safe environment for recreation, relaxation and education for all members of the community of County Cork. Although the library doors are closed to the public for now, library staff continue to reach out to the community and the success of these services show that they are needed now more than ever. When the struggle with Covid 19 is over, we can look back with pride on the work that has been done to support one another during this time.”
Cork County Council’s Housebound Delivery service is now available across the county to serve those who are cocooning and isolating throughout the duration of this pandemic.
